Training: As a graduate from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, I am trained in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. This includes education in both western and eastern medical perspectives. Chinese Medicine is a holistic form of medicine that makes use of variety of healing tools including moxibustion, cupping and herbal medicine. Nutrition and lifestyle counseling are also key elements that help us stay well. While there are many acupuncture treatment styles, TCM and Japanese (Meridian Therapy) acupuncture are the forms I have the most experience with. I am also influenced by Five Element acupuncture perspectives. I adjust my treatment style to fit the needs of the patient. Outside of my education at OCOM, I have pursued more specialized training in areas that are of particular interest to me. -Motivational Interviewing is a counseling technique that I use to assist people in moving through lifestyle changes. -Both chronic and acute painful conditions and injuries can be relieved with acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. I have an array of skills and knowledge to help guide you out of pain. -Digestive health, immunity and mental/emotional balance are topics I'm particularly adept at addressing. By supporting balance in the body through acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, mental and emotional states are profoundly influenced. -Facial Rejuvenation Facial cupping and acupuncture in combination with good nutrition and lifestyle habits can support beauty inside and out. -I also enjoy working with children; Using techniques like Shonishin and Shiatsu Massage that do not involve needles are certainly effective options. Many children accept acupuncture with needles as well. There are many therapies that benefit children. History: Portland has been my home since 2000. What a great city! My undergraduate education was at Portland State University where I earned a B.A. in Sociology. In the few years following my graduation, I provided childcare and personal assistance for some wonderful Portland families. While this work brought me much enjoyment, I wished to develop more skills that I could use to help people feel better and thrive. After some international travel and adventure, I focused on pursuing a master's degree at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. This was a challenging and wonderful experience. I gained a deep knowledge of acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, western medicine and nutrition and how to effectively apply what I learned. Also, becoming part of a wonderful community of encouraging and supportive healers is a gift that I truly appreciate. As a life-long athlete (soccer, volleyball, swimming, biking, running, yoga) I have learned how to recover from injuries and how to sustain myself with good nutrition and deep relaxation. Nourishment in all of it's forms (physical, mental, spiritual, social) influence our complete health picture. My latest adventure, becoming a mother, has deepened my knowledge and awareness of the incredible potential of our physical bodies and our emotional capacity. I am happy to help you look at your lifestyle and health picture without harsh judgement or criticism and assist you in reaching your personal goals through treating yourself in a kind and gentle way. I look forward to seeing you in my treatment room! Portland Acupuncture |
